Embedded Power: Supplies Reach New Heights

Anumber of trends are converging that are pushing embedded ac-dc power supplies and dc-dc converter modules towards higher wattages. Rapidly growing blade servers, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) equipment and several other devices are driving power requirements higher. Shifting bus architectures have an even larger effect on the embedded power supply market. These shifts range from the growing usage of the intermediate bus architecture (IBA), to alternative powering trends, to the biggest potential change— digital power control and management. Combined, these trends are driving opportunities for higher wattage converters.
