Continuing With Our Review Of The More significant 2002 NEC changes: 240.21(C)(6) This is a new tap rule allowing a 25-foot tap from a transformer secondary without overcurrent protection at the transformer end of the tap. The conductors shall have an ampacity that, when multiplied by the transformer secondary to primary voltage ratio, is at least one-third of the overcurrent protection rating on the transformer primary. They shall terminate in a single circuit breaker or set of fuses that limit the load current to not more than the conductor ampacity, and they shall be protected from physical damage.
