Are British punters in need of better tips? A group of would-be media executives think so, and this week they announced plans to launch the country's first new daily newspaper in two decades, hoping to take advantage of a fast-growing market of gamblers and gamers. Jeremy Deedes, a former chief executive of the Telegraph group and chairman of the new venture, says that the Sportsman will profit from a "revolution in betting in the UK". He is trying to raise £12m from City investors, and plans to launch the paper in time for next summer's foot- ball World Cup to be held in Germany.
