摘要

It Has been a topsy-turvy few weeks for Gordon Brown. He gave what for him was an unprecedentedly personal television interview, in which he discussed his upbringing, his love life and the death of his baby daughter: the appearance was "very difficult", the prime minister told The Economist this week (though presumably it was also his choice). More people seem to have found the intimate details endearing than excruciating, because Labour's poll rating has risen, shrinking the lead enjoyed by the Conservatives to six or seven points (see next story); a hung parliament has begun to seem a likely outcome of the general election that is due by June 3rd.
