The Economics of Infrastructure Provisioning: The Changing Role of the State

This book is part of the CESifo Seminar Series organized jointly with the Center for Economic Studies at Ludwig-Maximillians Universitat in Munich. This series aims at covering topical issues in economics, mainly from a European point of view. The purpose of this book is to provide a renewed understanding of the economics of public infrastructure and the changing division between State and market in that respect. It is emphasized that the subject is intrinsically interdisciplinary. Public infrastructure is characterized by long duration, technical indivisibility and capital intensity and hence there is non-rivalry in, and low excludability from, consumption.
