1. The table below shows the pattern of sectoral financial surpluses and deficits. Apart from data errors and omissions, a deficit in one sector should be matched by surpluses elsewhere in the economy.rn2. The household sector's financial deficit was more than £57 billion in 2007, nearly double the £34 billion deficit in 2006. Households were sustaining their consumption through significant net borrowing, including by substantial mortgage equity withdrawal However, the credit crunch and the resulting tightening in lending conditions caused the deficit to shrink through 2008, with the deficit in Q3 the lowest for two years.
