Spot chartering activity in the crude tanker market increased by 2.4% to 68.4 million tonnes in August. A significant increase in spot chartering activity was observed on the West African coasts as 11.3 million tonnes of cargo was booked for shipment, an increase of 57% over the month. On the other hand, activity in the Arabian Gulf mustered only 24.2 million tonnes of cargo against 23.6 million tonnes during July. Mediterranean region however, witnessed a decline of 20% in activity.
