Newbuilding prices stabilise

After a surge in new orders in the last two months, activity declined in August. A total of 22 tankers (of 4.2 million dwt) were ordered this month compared with 37 tankers (of 6.5 million dwt) in July. Although activity declined over the month, it is still higher than the monthly average level of new orders placed this year. During the last two months, ordering in the Suezmax vessel segment was prominent whereas this month VLCCs drove the overall market.
