The systems integrator will install the full electrical fit-out of Van Oord's new cable layer, now under construction by Damen Shipyards. This is Damen's first contract for its newly designed DP2 offshore carrier 7500 - an adaptation of the 8500 model - and is being built at its Galati yard in Romania. Due for completion at the end of this year, the multipurpose vessel will be 120m long, have a 28m beam, and a DP2 dynamic positioning system. She'll be equipped with a 5,000-tonne capacity cable carousel and a heavy-duty crane that will enable her to lay long, heavy cables, initially between the shore and the Gemini offshore windfarm -about 60km north of Schiermonnikoog, one of the Dutch Wadden Islands.
