UNDERGROUND ENERGY

Opened in 2010, the Cantina Sociale Mori Colli Zugna (Trento) was designed by Andrea Tornasi & Associati and is the region's largest underground cellar. The work is camouflaged by the vineyard terraces of the Trento pre-Alps: only 1,500 m~3 of its 100,000 m~3 are actually visible in the agricultural surroundings. Here, Viessmann, a manufacturer of renewable-energy heating systems, supplied everything necessary to meet the structure's huge demand for heating and hot water: two Vitocal 300-G units, which are hydrogeothermal two-stage cascade heat pumps. There is also a low-temperature Vitoplex 100, a 400-kW boiler featuring high output, high water content, wrap-around thermal insulation and meticulous construction and finish.
