Photography is different from other forms of art for being "perfectly analogue to reality", as Roland Barthes said. Photography is not reality, but it is the closest impression of it that we can produce. I was born in Naples and chose to remain here. Naples is my reality and it has left its mark on me in the form of layers of memory that my photographs have tried to evoke over the course of the past 50 years. This city has rewarded me, because living here has stimulated me creatively. It has given me subjects that I would have never been able to find otherwise. Classical architecture, for example, seeing that I was born in the historical centre where there are ruins and Roman stones. Or the sea.
