Of ali the diverse sentiments that are expressed by humanity, we consider those of gratitude and appreciation to be among the noblest and most profound. We are, therefore, sorry to see them neglected or dismissed as unfashionable. We live in a time that has dangerously and efficiently learnt to forget its past, while pursuing instead an improbable, ever more surprisingly new and different future. As Ortega y Gasset reminds us, "Breaking the continuity of the past, wanting to begin again, is a lowering of man and a plagiarism of the orangutan." In so doing, humanity has relinquished the privilege to remember, possess and utilize that past, forcing itself to live in a static present whilst forever starting again from scratch.
