摘要

In recent years, the number of patients with age-related macular degeneration of retina (ARMD) of retina among elderly persons increases. It is believed that this disease, leading to the loss of central vision, is associated with progressive accumulation of the so-called "senility pigment"—lipofuscin granules in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells. It was discovered that lipofuscin granules irradiated with light of the visible and ultraviolet regions of the spectrum are able to sensitize the formation of reactive oxygen species and enhance the development of oxidative stress on eye cells.
