EU Lends China Money for Energy Efficiency

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending China 134 million euros ($182 million) to support four projects aimed at improving energy efficiency and mitigating climate change. A 31 million-euro ($42 million) share of the loan will support a new hot water district heating system in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province. The project, which will move the operation from steam supply to hot water supplyrnand improve automation, is expected to reduce heat losses and electricity consumption by nearly half and to cut water use by 16 percent.
