Denmark Aims for Zero Fossil Fuels, More District Heating

Two separate reports have been published recently concluding that Denmark could eliminate fossil fuel use within a few decades. Both reports also show district heating playing an important role in achieving that goal. The first report, Heating Plan Denmark 2010, byAalborg University, consulting engineers Ramb0ll and the Danish District Heating Association, shows that the country can replace fossil fuels with biomass, solar, wind and geothermal energy over the next two decades. The conversion to renewable energy sources is projected to cost around 70 billion Danish crowns ($12.4 billion) over 10 years but, according to the experts, is expected to give a return on investment from the start because it will create several thousand new jobs.
