Lack of uniformity in flat-panel displays is one of the big problems facing component manufacturers and OEMs today. Indeed, since the market for LCD TVs began its swift growth, requirements for display uniformity have become quite stringent. Conventional efforts to ensure a uniform display have only required comparison of about five or nine points throughout the display. The use of increasingly large LCDs, and new demands for superior image quality mean that engineers and scientists now must adopt more sophisticated methods to evaluate flat-panel displays.
