Construction of Early Childhood Development Centre at Siyathuthuka Primary School

The Siyathuthuka Primary School near New Castle in KwaZulu-Natal needed a new Early Childhood Development Centre and proper facilities to enhance the education of foundation phase learners. The existing conditions were unsatisfactory, with around 50 learners being clustered together in one room. The existing structures had been constructed from old tin sheeting, and had no floors, no tables, no lights, minimum ventilation and no basic facilities such as a chalkboard, a storage area, etc. Provision also had to be made for proper sanitation, water availability and a generally clean, healthy environment.
