United Utilities to sell renewable energy unit

Listed UK water and sewerage company United Utilities has launched a sale process for its renewable energy business. United Utilities Renewable Energy was established in February 2014, and the business has grown to the point where it now provides around 30% of the utility's power needs from a combination of solar, wind, hydro, and biogas generation units under long-term supply contracts. UURE's assets include a 1MW floating array of solar panels on its Langthwaite reservoir near Lancaster and a 2MW battery alongside the solar plant at its sewage treatment works at Clifton Marsh outside Preston. Its latest confirmation statement in February valued its total assets at £69.24 million.
