摘要

AASHTO Standard specifications for Movable Highway Bridges has provisions for the use of small diameter sheaves. The provisions are seldom used and may not be understood by most.This paper will discuss the requirements of the AASHTO Movable Bridge Specifications and how small diameter Sheaves can be used n movable bridge applications. This paper will also discuss rope fatigue in general in order to provide some back up as to how and why these provisions were established.This paper will show use the AASHTO provisions for small dimeter sheaves to prepare alternate designs, and the cost of various alternatives will be compared. A preliminary design for Illinois Street Intermodal Bridge will be presented as an example.
