PVS Pathway inputs to the OIEprocedure for official recognitionof disease status

Following a request from its Member Countries in 1994,the OIE developed a procedure for the official recognition offreedom from foot and mouth disease (FMD), a procedure thatwas extended to the recognition of disease-free status for sixadditional diseases: rinderpest (until its global eradication in2011); contagious bovine pleuropneumonia – CBPP; bovinespongiform encephalopathy – BSE; African horse sickness– AHS; peste des petits ruminants – PPR; and classicalswine fever – CSF. The procedure was also adapted for theendorsement of the official national control programmes ofthree diseases (FMD, PPR and CBPP).
