摘要

The increasing power of high-throughput sequencing,bioinformatics and computational biology have revolutionisedmost aspects of biomedical and veterinary sciences. Suchnew technologies and tools have also had a big impact on thediagnosis, control and management of animal diseases.This issue describes new high-throughput sequencingtechnologies and bioinformatic tools that are applied to pathogengenomics. In addition, applications of genomics to diseasesurveillance or during outbreaks of infectious diseases are alsodescribed. As sequencing data constitute a unique resourceof information, there is also a section on databases and theirpossible applications to improving animal health worldwide.
