摘要

The molten hydroxide direct carbon fuel cell usesmoltenhydroxide (NaOH or KOH) as the electrolyte which iscontainedwithin a metallic container which also acts as acathode. A carbonrod made from graphite or coal derivedcarbon is dipped into theelectrolyte and used as both the fueland anode of the cell.Such a systemwasconsidered to haveanumber of advantages over the molten carbonateelectrolyteDCFC. The advantages of using sodium hydroxideelectrolyteinclude high ionic conductivity (especially whenassociated withwater) [1, 2], high reactivity towards carbon[3] anda low melting point [4].
