Melioidosis complicating lepromatous with type lepra reactions: A rare case report from India

Melioidosis is an infection caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei,occurring in patients with underlying medical conditions. An extensive literaturesearch did not reveal any reports of Burkholderia in association with Hansen’sdisease. We present here a case of a 34 year male with lepromatous leprosy withrecurrent type 2 reaction presenting with right iliopsoas abscess due to Burkholderiapseudomallei; he was treated successfully with meropenem and doxycycline. This isthe first case report of Burkholderia pseudomallei abscess coexisting with Hansen’sdisease.
