The title compound, C 11 H 11 N 3 O 4 , crystallizes with three independent but conformationally similar mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The plane through the pentane-2,4-dione moiety of the mol-ecule is inclined at angles of 10.1?(1), 10.6?(1) and 17.4?(1)° with regard to the respective arene ring. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are connected via C arene —H?O nitro and C arene —H?O=C inter-actions into supra-molecular sheets. Mol-ecules of consecutive sheets are linked by C meth-yl —H?O bonds.
