The challenges for Phase 2 are somewhat different. Our rare books cataloguer is now externally-funded, withpriorities for full-level DCRM(B) cataloguing set by the donor whose interests do not necessarily match ourinternal cataloguing needs. We therefore only have a limited amount of time which can be spent on non-projectcataloguing. Nevertheless, the Rare Books Cataloguer continues to be a key member of the team and tocontribute to the decision-making process when unusual items crop up in Phase 1. Although Phase 1 recordsare simplified, we try to follow standard practices where possible so that the process of upgrading records toPhase 2 is one of expanding rather than correcting.
