Introduction/Aim: Prescription opioid misuse isobserved in up to 20–30% of chronic non-cancer pain(CNCP) patients on long-term opioid therapy. In pre-vious research, factors such as negative affect andopioid craving have emerged as strong determinantsof opioid misuse. The contribution of opioid withdra-wal symptoms to opioid misuse, however, has remainedlargely unexplored. The first objective of this study wasto examine the association between opioid withdrawalsymptoms and opioid misuse among CNCP patientsprescribed opioid therapy. We also examined the fac-tors associated with opioid withdrawal symptoms.
