GoldNanorods(GNRs)withtunableaspectratioscanstronglyabsorbandscatterlightintheNIRregionduetotheirlocalizedsurfaceplasmonresonance(LSPR)property,andhavebeendemonstratedtoexhibitstrongplasmonenhancedmultiphotonluminescence(MPL)withbrightnessmanytimesstrongerthantheconventionalorganicchromophores.Inthisstudy,wesynthesizedGNRswithlongitudinalLSPRpeakat1036nmtomatchourhome-builtlightsource1040nmfemtosecondlaser,whichlocatesinthe"opticalwindow"wherethetissueabsorbsrelativelylittlelight.PEGylatedGNRswithgreatbiocompatibilitywereintravenouslyinjectedthroughthetailveinintomice.Excitedby1040nmlaser,theGNRsexhibitbrightthree-photonluminescence(3PL)signalswhilecirculatinginthebloodvessels.TheuseofGNRsasbrightcontrastagentsfor3PLimagingofmouseearbloodvesselsinvivowasdemonstrated.AndGNRstargetedintissuescanbeexcitedby1040nmlaserandcouldbeclearlyvisualizedwithnoautofluorescencebackground.Theseresultsindicatedthat3PLofGNRsisverypromisingfordeepinvivobioimagingandassessingthedistributionofGNRsintissueswithhighcontrast...
