The stand-off between Veo-lia and Suez continues, with neither side talking to the other after Veolia's successful deal to acquire 29.9% of its local rival for €3.4 billion. Instead, most of the noise seems to be coming from activist fund manager CIAM. It has started legal action challenging Suez's decision to use a 'Dutch foundation' to put its French water business beyond Veolia's control, demanded that the Suez board call a general meeting, and written to Veolia asking it to make an offer for the rest of the business. On the other side, Suez's employee representatives have successfully applied to the courts to suspend the sale of Engie's shares until they have been consulted (see story p36).
