Desalination makes a comeback in 2019 as PPP projects rewrite the rules on pricing

The last year was an extremely busy period for the international water project markets, with more than 2,700 updates to GWI's project tracker database (see table, below), 371 new projects added and 233 new projects awarded. The most notable trend was the massive resurgence of the seawater desalination market. While full figures for the market are still to be collected, contracted seawater desalination capacity awarded in the first half of the year alone outstripped the full amount for 2018, and large contracts that came in later are expected to make 2019 the most prolific year ever for the technology.
