FormationoftheemDrosophila/emlarvalbodywallmusclesrequiresthespecification,coordinatedcellularbehaviorsandfusionoftwocelltypes:FounderCells(FCs)thatcontroltheidentityoftheindividualmuscleandFusionCompetentMyoblasts(FCMs)thatprovidemass.Thesetwocelltypescometogethertocontrolthefinalsize,shapeandattachmentofindividualmuscles.However,thespatialarrangementofthesecellsovertime,thesequenceoffusioneventsandthecontributionofthesecellularrelationshipstothefusionprocesshavenotbeenaddressed.Weanalyzedthethree-dimensionalarrangementsofFCsandFCMsoverthecourseofmyoblastfusionandassayedwhethertheseissuesimpacttheprocessofmyoblastfusion.Weexaminedthetimingofthefusionprocessbyanalyzingthefusionprofileofindividualmusclesinwildtypeandfusionmutants.Weshowedthattherearetwotemporalphasesofmyoblastfusioninwildtypeembryos.Limitedfusioneventsoccurduringthefirst3nbsp;hoffusion,whilethemajorityoffusioneventsoccurintheremaining2.5nbsp;h.Altogether,ourdatahaveledustoproposeanewmodelofmyoblastfusionwherethefrequencyofmyoblastfusioneventsmaybeinfluencedbythespatialarrangementsofFCsandFCMs./p/div
