Drosophilamelanogastercarryingthemutationapterous-blothaveblisteredwings.Trypanbluestainsapatchofdeadcellslocalizedtothewingpouchofimaginaldiscsandthesameareashowsacidphosphatase(AcPase)activitysuggestingthatthecelldeathislysosomal.AutophagicvacuolesandothersecondarylysosomesshowAcPaseactivitywithinthediscepitheliumandenzymeactivityisfoundinfragmentsofdeadcellswhichhavebeenextrudedbasally.Thecelldeath,althoughextensiveandconfinedtothepresumptivewingregion,doesnotresultinlossofadultstructures.
