Successful Recovery of Reading in the Right Fusiform Despite Intact Left Fusiform

The role of the right hemisphere in aphasia recovery has been a controversial topic. The use of fiinctional imaging has significantly elucidated brain reorganization during stroke recovery. It has been shown that brain reorganization during language recovery involves recmitment of the right hemisphere in the subacute phase, which is subsequently followed by a re-shift of activation to the left hemisphere in the chronic phase associated with fiirther language improvement, at least in some cases (Saur et al.9 200o). The present case study provides evidence that good recovery of reading does not always require re-shift to the left hemisphere.
