Gapjunctionalintercellularcommunication(GJIC)regulatescellularhomeostasisbypropagatingsignalingmolecules,exchangingcellularmetabolites,andcouplingelectricalsignals.Incancer,cellsexhibitalteredratesofGJICwhichmayplayaroleinneoplasticprogression.KATPchannelshelpmaintainmembranepolarityandlinkagesbetweenKATPchannelactivityandratesofGJIChavebeenestablished.Themechanisticrelationshiphasnotbeenfullyelucidated.WereporttheeffectsoftreatmentwithmultipleKATPantagonistcompoundsonGJICinmetastaticcelllinesdemonstratinganincreaseincommunicationratesfollowingtreatmentwithcompoundspossessingspecificitiestowardstheSUR2subunitofKATP.TheseeffectsremainedconsistentusingcelllineswithdifferentexpressionlevelsofSUR1andSUR2,suggestingpossibleofftargeteffectsonGJICbythesecompounds...
