Actinomycetesarehighlyimportantbacteria.Ononehand,someofthemcauseseverehumanandplantdiseases,ontheotherhand,manyspeciesareknownfortheirabilitytoproduceantibiotics.Herewereporttheresultsofacomparativeanalysisofgenome‐scalemetabolicmodelsof37speciesofactinomycetes.Basedoninsilicoknockoutswegeneratedtopologicalandgenomicmapsforeachorganism.Combiningthecollectionofgenome‐widemodels,weconstructedaglobalenzymeassociationnetworktoidentifybothaconserved“corenetwork”andan“essentialcorenetwork”oftheentiregroup.Ashasbeenreportedforlow‐degreemetabolitesinseveralorganisms,low‐degreeenzymes(inlinearpathways)turnouttobegenerallymoreessentialthanhigh‐degreeenzymes(inmetabolichubs)...
