To the Editor: Infection by WestNile virus (WNV) was first recog-nized in the Western Hemisphere in1999 in New York (1). Subsequently,this mosquito-borne flavivirus hasspread westward and has emerged asan important cause of infectiousmeningoencephalitis in the UnitedStates (2). In September 2002, duringa WNV epidemic in Michigan (2), a38-year-old woman with commonvariable immunodeficiency (CVID)sought treatment at the University ofMichigan Hospital with acute WNV-associated meningitis. Although per-sons with CVID are at increased riskfor enteroviral meningoencephalitis, agreater susceptibility to arthropod-borne flavivirus infections has notbeen reported
