Laboratory Surveillance of Dengue in Argentina, 1995–2001

Local transmission of dengue fever virus in Argentinais increased by the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquitoesand dengue outbreaks in neighboring countries. From 1995to 2001, a laboratory-based active surveillance programdetected 922 dengue cases. Indigenous transmissioninvolving dengue-1 and -2 serotypes was confirmed only insubtropical areas in northern Argentina
