Plasmodium ovale Malaria Acquired in Central Spain

We describe a case of locally acquired Plasmodium ovalemalaria in Spain. The patient was a Spanish woman who hadnever traveled out of Spain and had no other risk factors formalaria. Because patients with malaria may never have visitedendemic areas, occasional transmission of malaria to Euro-pean hosts is a diagnostic and clinical challenge
