Klebsiella oxytoca bacteremia-causal relationship to symptomatic colitis?

Klebsiella oxytoca is a known cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea1–4 and hemorrhagic colitis.5 The loss of intestinal cell membrane integrity with colitis may allow translocation of the bacteria into the blood stream, with further systemic complications. To define the extent of this problem in our hospital, we performed a retrospective chart review evaluating K. oxytoca bacteremia and the prevalence of symptomatic colitis.
