Detection of Ica gene in Staphylococcus epidermidis for ability of biofilm formation with PCR methods

Background: One of the important species of Coagulase negativestaphylococci (CoNS) in nosocomial infections especially in ICU and the other parts of hospital care units is Staphylococcus epidermidis. Due toStaphylococcus epidermidis infections such as endocarditis and urinary tract infections, the biofilm formation that related with polysaccharide intercellular adhesin (PIA) has significant role. Biofilm accretion is particularly related toica ABCD operon.
