Successful treatment of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa meningitis with intravenous and intrathecal colistin

Multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa,1,2 defined on the basis of resistance to all commercially available antibiotics, is an important cause of nosocomial infections. Many of these P. aeruginosa strains show in vitro susceptibility only to colistin,3 an old antibiotic that was used in the past to treat cases of meningitis.4,5 Herein, we present a case of multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa meningitis susceptible only to colistin, treated successfully with intravenous and intrathecal colistin.
