A 26-year-old man presented with right-sided painful, pulsatile neck swelling, whichhe noticed for the last 4 years. Clinical examination and imaging modalities confirmed the diagnosis of right carotid body tumor of 7 5 cm (A). He was found tohave anomalous origin of ascending pharyngeal and occipital branches arisingfrom the internal carotid artery rather than from the external carotid artery (B/Cover).Surgical excision of the tumor was planned. The tumor was supplied by theascending pharyngeal branch (C). The tumor was excised in total after ligation ofthe ascending pharyngeal branch from the internal carotid artery, safeguarding allthe nerves (D). The patient recovered well without any deficit and was dischargedin 3 days. He has provided consent for his case presentation. To our knowledge, carotid body tumor supplied from the internal carotid artery by an anomalous originof branches of the external carotid artery is unheard of.
