Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are suitablecandidates for the cell-based reconstruction ofdifferent tissues including cartilage and havebeen isolated from different sources such assynovium, adipose tissue and bone marrow.These cells were assumed to be similar withregard to self-renewal, multidifferentiationpotential and surface epitopes. For the clinicalapplication of MSCs for articular cartilagerepair, functional suitability and phenotypicstability are crucial factors. In this study, wecompared the in vitro differentiation capacityof MSC derived from bone marrow, adiposetissue and synovium and their ectopic cartilageformation capacity
