Structural hydrocarbon reservoir was the major exploration target in China's most onshore oilfields in early exploration. With the deepening of exploration, equal consideration has been given to structural reservoir, stratigraphic reservoir and lithological reservoir. Exploration practice shows that stratigraphic reservoir and lithological reservoir have abundant geological reserves. In stratigraphic reservoirs, stratigraphic onlap hydrocarbon reservoir is the major type, but actual exploration shows that it is very difficult to explore this kind of reservoir. Especially the precision of sand body prediction is the point of difficulty because sand body prediction determines the scale of reserve forecasting and the exploration target design. In this paper, in view of the problem of sand body prediction precision, through in-depth research on and analysis of the three typical simplified models of stratigraphic onlap hydrocarbon reservoir, a wedge theory based effective prediction method has been developed and the effect of its application in Subei basin shows that it has high prediction precision.
