In 12 years, the Journal of RehabilitationResearch and Development(JRRD) has transformed from a smallDepartment of Veterans Affairs (VA)houseorgan into a leading internationalrehabilitation research publication, benefitting Veterans, all personswith disabilities, and those who care forthem. At JRRD, we have fully honoredU.S. Public Law 729 passed in 1948, which established the originaltenets for the journal’s existence. It authorized a program ofVA research in the fields of prosthetics and sensory devices with amandate “to make available the results of such research so as tobenefit all disabled people.” This central tenet is reflected in theJRRD mission statement developed 12 years ago “To responsiblyevaluate and disseminate scientific research findings impactingthe rehabilitative healthcare community.”
