Inthepresentworkmultilayerhybridsol-gelcoatingsweresynthesizedontheAISI316Lausteniticstainlesssteelemployedinthefabricationoforthopaedicimplants.Hybridsolswereobtainedfromamixtureofinorganicprecursor,TEOS,andorganic,GPTMS,usingethanolassolvent,andaceticacidascatalyst.ThecharacterizationofthesolswasperformedusingpHmeasurements,rheologicaltestsandinfraredspectroscopy(FTIR)fordifferentageingtimes.Ontheotherhand,thecoatingswerecharacterizedbyscanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM),whilethecorrosionresistancewasevaluatedusinganodicpotentiodynamicpolarizationinSBFsolutionat37±2°C.Theresultsconfirmedthatsol-gelsynthesisemployingTEOS-GPTMSsystemsproducesuniformandhomogeneouscoatings,whichenhancedthecorrosionresistancewithregardtotheparentalloy.Moreover,corrosionperformancewasretainedafterapplyingmorethanonelayer(multilayercoatings)...
