Objective: To study the correlation of serum sex hormone levels with Th1/Th2 balance aswell as peripheral CD28, CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1 expression in perimenopausal women.Methods: Perimenopausal women and postmenopausal women who were treated inGynecology Department of Shenzhen Longhua District Central Hospital between May 2013and October 2016 were selected as the perimenopausal group and postmenopausal group, andhealthy women who received physical examination during the same period were selected ascontrol group. Serum was collected to detect the levels of Th1 and Th2 cytokines as well asendothelial injury marker molecules, and peripheral blood was collected to detect the levelsof Th1 and Th2 cells as well as the mRNA expression of CD28, CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1.Results: The absolute value of Th1 cells in peripheral blood, IFN-γ, IL-2 and ET-1 levelsin serum as well as CD28, CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1 mRNA expression in peripheral bloodmononuclear cells of perimenopausal group and postmenopausal group were significantlyhigher than those of control group while the absolute value of Th2 cells in peripheral bloodas well as IL-4, IL-10 and NO levels in serum were significantly lower than those of controlgroup; the absolute value of Th1 cells in peripheral blood, IFN-γ, IL-2 and ET-1 levelsin serum as well as CD28, CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1 mRNA expression in peripheralblood mononuclear cells of postmenopausal group were significantly higher than those ofperimenopausal group while the absolute value of Th2 cells in peripheral blood as well asIL-4, IL-10 and NO levels in serum were significantly lower than those of perimenopausalgroup; peripheral blood Th1 and Th2 cell levels were correlated with ET-1 levels as well asCD28, CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1 mRNA expression. Conclusion: Low estrogen levels inperimenopausal women can affect the Th1/Th2 balance and then result in endothelial injury.
