Tutorial Workshop Session Abstracts

This workshop is intended to provide practical guidance for writing an effective shared instrumentation grant application. This type of proposal is very different from one seeking funding for investigator-initiated research. In addition to the focus on the instrumentation, there is involvement of multiple investigators as major and minor users, and documentation needs to be provided about issues such as how the instrument will be operated and maintained, and how its shared use will be managed. Presenters will discuss each of the five review criteria (Justification of Need, Technical Expertise, Research Projects, Administration, and Institutional Commitment), and will provide a general overview of the review process and proposal scoring will also be covered. The presenters at the workshop have track records of successful shared instrument grant applications and significant experience in scientific review of these proposals.
