Comparative Study on Growth and Conformation of Male Teddy Kids under Two Management Systems

AnexperimentwasconductedtocomparethegrowthandconformationofmaleTeddykids(3monthsage),undertwomanagementsystemsduringtheyear2014.Thekidswerekeptatthelivestockexperimentalstation,DepartmentofLivestockManagement,FacultyofAnimalHusbandryandVeterinarySciences,SindhAgricultureUniversityTandojam.Atotaloftwelve(12)Teddykidswererandomlydividedintotwogroupsi.e.AandBhavingsixkidseach.ThekidsofgroupAwererearedundersemiintensivemanagementsystem(concentratesandopengrazing)whereaskidsofgroupBwerekeptunderintensivemanagementsystem(concentratesandgreenfodder).Thedurationoftheexperimentwaseight(8)weeksandtheobservationsforgrowthandconformationtraits(girth,heightandlength)wererecordedonweeklybasis.TheresultrevealedthattheaveragebodyweightofkidsingroupA(8.29kg)hadsignificantlyhigher(P0.05)thanB(7.75kg).Moreover,theaveragebodyconformationinrespectofgirth,heightandlengthofgroupAkids(48.17cm,40.5cmand39cmrespectively),weresignificantlyhigher(P0.05)thanthekidsingroupB(47.5cm,39.33cmand37.67cmrespectively).Whilecomparingtheeconomicaspectsofkidsrearedundertwomanagementsystems,itwasnotedthatmorenetprofit(Rs.337/kid)wasearnedfromthekidsofgroupAascomparedtothekidsofgroupB(Rs.245/kid).Inconclusion,thekidsrearedundersemiintensivemanagementsystemdemonstratedbetterperformanceintermsofbodyweightandconformationtraitswhichweremoreprofitable.
