Chromolaenaodorata(L.)KingH.Rob.isaperennialubiquitaryaromaticherbcommoninSouthEastAsia,WestAfricaandpartsofAustralia.Recently,C.odorataleafextracthasbeendemonstratedtoexhibitantibiofilmactivityagainstPseudomonasaeruginosa.However,themolecularmechanismunderlyingthisbiologicalactivityhasnotbeenelucidated.Toaddressthisissue,thecytoplasmicproteinexpressionofP.aeruginosabiofilmfollowingtreatmentwithC.odoratachloroformextract(COCE)wasinvestigated.BasedonSDSpolyacrylamidegelelectrophoresis,thetreatmentofCOCEresultedinchangesintheprofileofcytoplasmicproteinsofP.aeruginosabiofilmunderaerobicandanaerobicconditions.Densitometricanalysisbetween400and750nmsuccessfullyrevealedanumberofdifferentiallyexpressedcytoplasmicproteins(underaerobiccondition:23kDa,35kDaand46kDa;underanaerobiccondition:45kDa)inP.aeruginosabiofilmwhichindicatedtheantibiofilmeffectsofCOCE.WesuggestthatthemetabolicallyimportantcytoplasmicproteinsinP.aeruginosabiofilmmaybeinvolvedintheantibiofilmmodeofactionofCOCE.Nevertheless,theidentityofthesecytoplasmicproteinsremainstobefurtherinvestigated.
