Inthispapertheeffectofreplacingfishmealwithdifferentproteinsourceswastestedongrowthperformance,feedutilizationanddigestiveenzymeactivityinrainbowtrout.Sixexperimentaldietscontainingdifferentproteinsourcesweretested:1)100%fishmeal(FM),2)60%fishmeal+40%plantprotein(60FM/40PP),3)30%fishmeal+70%plantprotein(30FM/70PP),4)100%plantprotein(PP),5)50%poultrybyproductmealprotein+50%plantprotein(50PP/50PM)and6)100%poultryby-productmeal(PM).Rainbowtroutwithameaninitialweightof15±2gwerefedexperimentaldietsfor60days.Resultsshowedthat40%fishmealreplacementwithplantproteindidnotnegativelyaffectthegrowthindices,feedutilizationandmuscleproximatecomposition.However,70%and100%replacementoffishmealwithdifferentproteinsourcesresultedinsignificantlydecreasedgrowth,feedutilizationandtotalfilletprotein,butsignificantlyincreasedtotalfilletlipid.Thealkalineproteaseactivityin60FM/40PP,50PM/50PPandPMgroupswerenotsignificantlydifferentwithcontrol,butsignificantlylowerin30FM/70PPandPPgroups.Thefishfed100%plantprotein(PP)resultedindecreasedlipaseactivitycomparedtootherfeedingtreatments,butnosignificantdifferencesinlipaseactivityamongothergroups.
